WHY DID WE START WHIRLYBIRD?
Whirlybird was born out of necessity. Birds in our local community were in need of a safe place to land. We never created Whirlybird to be a massive bird shelter with loads of adoptable birds, social media followers and online presence. we have always been humble, honest and committed to the birds.
WHY SHOULD I ADOPT FROM WHIRLYBIRD?
We are a small rescue, really small with a capacity to house no more than five large parrots at a time. Some would say that is a negative, we beg to differ. We have a truly wonderful relationship with an board certified avian vet as well as our local animal control. Most of our surrenders come from these two resources. The parrots at Whirlybird are exposed to children, pets, other birds, and life experiences that help us to discover what kind of life the bird needs most. In addition, all birds are vetted and fed a well rounded diet.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SURRENDER A BIRD?
Surrendering a bird means the owner can no longer care for their bird, and chooses for the bird to go into a rescue. The owners who choose rescue usually love their birds dearly and care about their well being long term. They want to know that the bird's next home will be their last. It is a difficult decision that only the owner can make. We are here to listen, help you find ways to keep your bird if you wish, and if you cannot care for your bird, we will ensure it is safe at our rescue, or another trusted rescue.
"I hope you love birds too. It is economical. It saves going to Heaven."
